WWF PPV 97

- - 1997 Royal Rumble - -
January 17 in San Antonia, TX
(Home Video (VG/EX))
IC Title Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Goldust
Ahmed Johnson vs. Faarooq.
Vader vs. the Undertaker.
Canek, Hector Garza, and Perro Aguato vs. Heavy Metal, Fuerza Guerrera and Jerry Estrada
Royal Rumble Match- Won by Steve Austin by eliminating Bret Hart. Stone Cold was in the ring by himself a lot during this match but it picked up when his nemesis, Bret Hart hit the ring. A lot of jobbers in this Rumble too, showing the lack of depth that the WWF had at this time.
WWF Title Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Sycho Sid- Good match as HBK won the title in his hometown and received a huge ovation.
- - Final Four - -
February 16, 1997 in Chattanooga, TN
(Home Video with Countdown (VG/EX))
"Wildman" Marc Mero vs. Leif Cassidy
Faarooq, Savio Vega, and Crush vs. Flash Funk, Bart Gunn, and Goldust
IC Title Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Rocky Maivia- Little did we know that these two would fight many more times in the future and headline a Wrestlemania.
Tag Team Title Match: Doug Furnas and Philip LaFon vs. Owen Hart and The British Bulldog
WWF Title Match: Vader vs. The Undertaker vs. Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart- Good entertaining match. Bret Hart would win the title here for the forth time, only to lose it the next night to Psycho Sid on Raw.
Free For All included, approx. 2 Hours

- - 1997 Wrestlemania 13 - -
March 23, 1997 in Chicago, IL
(Home Video (VG/EX))
The Headbangers vs. The Blackjacks vs. Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon vs. The Godwinns- A boring match with a lot of scrubs that the WWF tried to push but never really made it, except for Bradshaw and the Headbangers.
IC Title Match: Rocky Maivia vs. the Sultan- Nobody cared about this match then. Little did we know that The Rock and Rikishi would be stars later in their careers.
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Goldust
"I Quit" Match: Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin- 5 Star match all the way. It was truly unbelievable as the announcers and the entire crowd was into it. The drama was awesome, not to mention the double face/heel turn that happened. This match was Wrestlemania 13. It is a MUST SEE, no doubt about it.
Tag Team Title Match: Owen Hart and the British Bulldog vs. Mankind and Vader- Why was Owen always in tag matches come Wrestlemania?
Chicago Street Fight: The Road Warriors and Ahmed Johnson vs. Crush, Faarooq, and Savio Vega
WWF Title Match: Undertaker vs Sycho Sid- Bret comes out and complains about being screwed by everyone and costs Sid the title.
- - Revenge Of The Taker - -
April 20, 1997 in Rochester, NY
(Home Video (VG/EX))
The Sultan vs. Flash Funk
Tag Team Title Match: The Legion of Doom vs. Owen and The Bulldog
IC Title Match: Savio Vega vs. Rocky Maivia
Jesse James vs. Rockabilly
WWF Title Match: Mankind vs. The Undertaker- These two fight yet again but this time for the WWF Championship. After the match, they botch a spot where Mankind is supposed to "accidentally" burn Paul Bearer, but it didn't happen. Undertaker then burns Bearer himself, which also looks botched up (Thanks to John McAdam).
Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart- Not as good as their match at WM 13 but that sure is understandable. Still, a very good match with Stone Cold going over this time, finally.
- - Cold Day In Hell - -
May 11, 1997 in Richmond, VA
(Home Video (G/VG or WWE Network (VG/EX))
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Flash Funk
Mankind vs. Rocky Maivia
Nation of Domination vs. Ahmed Johnson
No DQ Match: Ken Shamrock vs. Vader- Shamrocks first WWF PPV Match as he wins his debut. Not much of a surprise.
WWF Title Match: Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker
- - 1997 King Of The Ring - -
June 9 in Providence, RI
(Home Video (VG/EX))
Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, and The British Bulldog vs. Sycho Sid and The Legion of Doom- Good match involving Sid.
Goldust vs. Crush
Semi-Finals
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Ahmed Johnson
Mankind vs. Jerry Lawler- You either hated him or loved Lawler back then. He would rip all his opponents apart verbally before wrestling them.
Finals
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Mankind- A pretty good match as HHH beats up on Mankind after Helmsley wins.
Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin- Awesome match. Better than their match at Wrestlemania 14. These two are the current tag team champions. Each man had the match won but it ended in a draw. The WWF was really pushing Austin at this time and it's a good thing they did.
WWF Title Match: The Undertaker vs. Faarooq WOW, Faarooq in a main event in a PPV against the Undertaker. I hope he enjoyed his one time.
- - Canadian Stampede - -
July 6 in Calgary, Albert, Canada
(Home Video (VG/EX))
The Great Sasuke vs. Taka Michinoku
Mankind vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley
WWF Title Match: The Undertaker vs. Vader- It was supposed to be UT against Ahmed Johnson but he was injured for the umpteenth time so Vader filled in.
Steve Austin, Goldust, Ken Shamrock, and The Legion of Doom vs. Bret and Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Jim Neidhart, and The British Bulldog- This event was up in Canada and the Canadian fans were unbelievable loud, making this an awesome 5 on 5 match-up. A Lot of heat during this ppv, really heating up the Canada vs. USA feud during this time.
- - 1997 SummerSlam - -
August 3 in East Rutherford, NJ
(Home Video (VG/EX))
Cage Match: Mankind vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley- Superplex from the top of the cage by Mankind. Brutal.
Goldust vs. Brian Pillman
The Legion Of Doom vs. the Godwinns
Euro Title Match: Ken Shamrock vs. The British Bulldog
Los Boricuas vs. The Disciples Of Apocalypse
IC Title Match: Steve Austin vs. Owen Hart- Good match but ended badly. Owen gave Austin a real piledriver as you could see his neck slam into the mat, almost costing Austin his career, twice. Owen knew he messed up as soon as it happened as he allowed a crippled Austin to roll him up very weakly for the pinfall.
WWF Title Match: Bret Hart vs. The Undertaker- Big story-line match. Fairly an entertaining match as Shawn Michaels was the special quest referee. Bret spat on HBK, causing Shawn to attempt to hit Bret with a chair but missed and he hit the Undertaker. Shawn had to count 1-2-3 as Bret won the title for the 5th time, beginning the HBK/UT feud and heating up the HBK/Bret Hart feud.
- - Ground Zero - -
September 7 in Louisville, KY
(Home Video (VG))
Brian Pillman vs. Goldust- Because Pillman won, he got to spend 30 days with Marlena. Really a stupid stipulation.
Brian Christopher vs. Scott Putski
Savio Vega vs. Faarooq and Crush
Max Mini vs. El Torito- Good match. That Max Mini was crazy.
Tag Team Title Match: The Godwinns vs. The Headbangers vs. Legion of Doom vs. Owen Hart and The Bulldog
WWF Title Match: The Patriot vs. Bret Hart
Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker- Match didn't really have an ending, which made for a disappointment and was nothing like their match one month later at Badd Blood.
- - UK's One Night Only - -
September 20, 1997 in Birmingham, England
(Live (VG) Also have Countdown on another DVD (F/G))
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Dude Love- Match was dominated by Dude Love but won by HHH, with help of Chyna of course.
Tiger Ali Singh vs. Leif Cassidy
Tag Team Title Match: Savio Vega and Miguel vs. Headbangers
Flash Funk vs. The Patriot
Godwinns vs. Legion of Doom
Ken Shamrock/Rockabilly Interview/Brawl
Vader vs. Owen Hart- Pretty good match. Vader hits a splash on Owen from the second rope where I thought it was going to be over.
WWF Title Match: Undertaker vs. Bret Hart
European Title Match: Shawn Michaels vs. British Bulldog- The Bulldog is home and receives a huge ovation from the fans. HBK goes through his antics, like usual, and wins the title with help from DX. Too bad for the Bulldog. How many times did he lose to HBK in his career?
- - 1997 Badd Blood - -
October 5 in St. Louis, MO
(Home Video (VG/EX) with Countdown (G))
Rocky Maivia, Kama, and D-Lo vs. The Legion of Doom
Max Mini and Nova vs. Tarantula and Mosaic
Tag Team Title Match: The Godwinns vs. The Headbangers
IC Title Match: Faarooq vs. Owen Hart- Oh, was there a match? I was too busy watch and laughing at Steve Austin going to the Spanish and French announce tables trying to talk with them. One of the Spanish guys said loco and Austin said something like, "you think I'm crazy?" Very funny. In the end, Austin gave the IC Title to Owen Hart to face him at Survivor Series.
Disciples of Apocalypse vs. Los Boricuas
Flag Match: Bret Hart and The British Bulldog vs. Vader and The Patriot
Hell In The Cell: Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker- Please tell me you have seen this classic match. It was the first Hell in a Cell match as it was awesome. HBK took almost all the punishment as he fell off the cage, had his head cracked with a chair and slammed into the cage. He had many stitches as you can clearly see the next night on Raw. When UT had the match won, Kane debuted and tombstoned UT allowing HBK to steal the victory. HBK wore a "Crimson Mask" in the end (face covered with blood).
- - 1997 Survivor Series - -
November 9 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
(Home Video (VG/EX) or Live with 16 minutes of Countdown (G/VG))
The Godwinns and the New Age Outlaws vs. The Headbangers and The Blackjacks
The Truth Commission vs. Disciples of Apocalypse
British Bulldog, Jim Neidhart, Doug Furnas, and Phil LaFon vs. Vader, Steve Blackman, Goldust and Marc Mero- Goldust turns heel here as he costs team USA the victory.
The Road Warriors, Ken Shamrock, and Ahmed Johnson vs. Nation of Domination
Kane vs. Mankind
IC Title Match: Steve Austin vs. Owen Hart
WWF Title Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart- Good match which ended in a legit screw-job ending where Vince called for the bell while HBK had Bret in a Sharpshooter and awarded HBK the championship. The match was supposed to end up in a DQ. I don't blame Vince. In fact, I may have done the same. You can't have your champion switch Feds while he is still the champ. Let your ego go Bret. "I can't lose to Shawn Michaels."
- - Degeneration X, In Your House- -
December 8 in Springfield, MA
(Home Video (G/VG) or WWE Network (VG/EX))
Lightweight Title Match: Taka Michinoku vs. Brian Christopher- Taka becomes the first WWF Light Heavyweight Champion.
Marvelous Marc Mero vs. Butterbean- A really lame boxing match.
Tag Team Title Match: New Age Outlaws vs. Legion of Doom
Los Boricuas vs. Disciples of Apocalypse- I wish it were a winners and losers leave town match.
Jeff Jarrett vs. The Undertaker- The return wrestling debut of Jeff Jarrett.
Boot Camp Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Sgt. Slaughter
IC Title Match: The Rock vs. Steve Austin- Famous scene where D-Lo receives a Stone Cold Stunner on Austin's truck.
WWF Title Match: Ken Shamrock vs. Shawn Michaels- Shamrock wins by DQ after a good match with Shawn Michaels. After one month off, Owen Hart comes back to beat up on HBK at the end. I really thought Owen was going to get a WWF Title push around this time but never did.
